Woodcutting Guide by aussiebeast

Introduction

Woodcutting is one of the most important resource gathering skills in Syrnia. There are a number of forests across the map where you can work if you have the required level, with each forest giving progressively more wood and higher level seeds as well as other goodies at some forests.

What is wood used for?

Most new players need a house to store items in, so that when they ultimately start combat they cannot lose stored items. The smallest house is 250 slots, but there are some very large houses that can be built with large quantities of wood.

Along with houses, wood is also used in the construction of player shops, boats and clan stockhouses. Preparation for pirate invasions also requires wood at the pirate stockhouse.

Smithing and lower level cooking are other skills which utilise wood. You can find information about this at our constructing, smithing and cooking guides.

Starting work

To start woodcutting you will need to equip a bronze hatchet by clicking on it in your inventory. Initially you will only be able to cut at Isri on Remer Island.

Progressing through the levels

As you gain levels, there are a number of better hatchets you can use to reduce your work timer. The requirements for each hatchet is listed in the table below.

Where you choose to work is entirely up to you. Higher level forests give more wood and more experience, but if you choose to be a farmer as well, you might gather seeds you cannot plant at that stage.

* Elven hatchets are only available at the Elven Shop in Penteza for 60,000gp.
** Only obtainable during holiday events.

Working at a location

There are a number of factors that govern your work timer.
- each player working at your location adds 2 seconds to your base timer
- your woodcutting level reduces your timer
- the hatchet you use also reduces the timer
Also note that forests on Celebration Island have fixed timers.

Other drops while woodcutting

All forests drop seeds. The lower level forests drop only the lower seeds, while the very high forests drop the very high level seeds. Forest level does not determine the farming level required for each seed obtained there. Outlands forests drop more seeds, but beware, the Outlands is a PvP (Player vs Player) area and you may be killed while working and you will lose all items in your inventory. Seeds are used for Farming.

Squirrels can be obtained while woodcutting. These little critters can be clicked until they turn red, and once red if clicked at any forest (excluding Kingswood and Tirnus Plateau) will give seeds of the type usually dropped at that forest.

Squirrels and scrolls can be obtained at any forest. Jades can be found at Aloria, Ammon, Khaya and OL 52. You may also get chests and locked items that contain goodies. A list is in the Location table below.
