Speed guide by Quadiam & personer

Introduction

Travelling in between towns is a very time consuming event, especially as you leave Remer Island. As you gain experience in speed you will increase your level and help to reduce the timer for travelling in between cities. You can also acquire items that will help to reduce this time, such as leather boots, eagle boots, horse, and enchanted armour. These items will help to reduce your time travelled in between cities immensely.

Enchants

Any equipment can be modified with a minus travel time enchantment if the right gems are provided (see our magic guide for more detailed information). Ensure that you are able to equip the item that you are trying to enchant before you commit to the enchantment. These items will decrease the timer by the corresponding amount that the enchantment provides. If you are wearing 3 total -2 Travel times items, you total travel time will be reduced by 6 seconds. These items will decrease your travel time, but they will also lower the experience you gain. They will however, slightly improve the exp gained per second travel time. Note that there is a hardcap for travel time at 10 seconds, so you will not be able to go any faster than that.

This bonus also applies to horses. When walking, the bonus applies after the reduction from your speed level, but before applying speed gear bonuses. For horses, this bonus applies after speed levels and after the timer reduction from riding a horse, making it far more effective while on horseback.

Horses

You can purchase horses in Syrnia to ride and overtake all those slow backpackers. These animals will greatly decrease your travel time, allowing you to travel vast distances with little trouble. Using this animals will yield you no speed experience and no chance of finding flowers, as a small tradeoff for their stunning speed. Each new player will have a beginners horse that they can use to travel from place to place, but be warned that all horses have a random chance to die, forcing you to trek the world on foot once more.

Do not use a horse when moving to or from Mount Tirnus, as your horse will die if equipped.

Boots

You can also find various boots in the world of Syrnia that will affect your travel time as well. Unlike horses, you still gain speed exp when wearing boots. Leather boots are commonly found from different skills, and can be equipped to lower your timer. As you progress through your Syrnia life you will be able to find better boots that will have an even greater effect on your travel time.

Other Speed Items

Once you have reached speed level 35, you will be able to wear special speed gear to reduce your travel time. If you do not use a horse, those items will reduce your travel time by a percentage. The major advantage of those items compared to -tt enchants is, that while reducing your travel time they will not reduce the experience you gain! You should however be aware that the speed items can break while walking.
This is a multiplicative bonus, meaning the effect of each speed gear diminishes as you wear more.

Searching The Forest

At Jungles Edge on Serpenthelm Island and Kingswood Forest on Calmere Island, there is an option to gain afk speed experience, albeit at a very slow rate. Every action gives 10 speed exp per 60 seconds. While searching Kingswood Forest you may find wood, moldy chests, mules and seeds. While searching at Jungles Edge there is a chance of finding one of four monkeys. We don't advise this option, as this gives very little exp, and the possible monkey drops aren't that valuable.

Flowers

You may stop in and buy flowers form the flower shops located around Syrnia, but you can also find your own while travelling between towns. Certain areas have great meadows which flowers can randomly be found in. While using a horse you are too lazy to pick them up, so you are only able to obtain them while travelling on foot and the higher your speed level, the highest your chance of finding flowers. Flowers can be sold to the various Floral Shops in Syrnia.

Sailing

Boats

You will also travel between islands, but your equipment and your horse will have no affect as you traverse the rough seas. The boat you sail in will help to determine that speed. There is no level restrictions to utilize a boat in the game, only to build one. (See constructing guide for detailed information) Faster boats will be significantly more expensive, but will dramatically lower your travel time. Note that for the travel time reduction percentage for boats, travelling with the NPC boat is used as reference.

Small Fishing Boat 31%
Sloop 50%

Trawler 76%
Canoe 50%
Long Boat 80%

Ports

Sailing allows you to travel from island to island. There is only one port on an island, this is your gateway to other lands. From each port you can only sail to certain locations. You may have to go from that new port to another one to reach your destination. There is a fee for using a boat there, however if you have your own boat, travel is free. The only exception is Heerchey Island, which to get there, you must pay 500 gold. Travel back from most islands is usually free, however Exrollia and Webbers Island are not. Make sure you don't get stranded on there!

How speed bonuses work (After applying speed level bonus)

Here are two examples to show you how the timer reduction works from different speed bonuses work. Note that this assumes the initial timer you input is after the timer reduction from your speed level is applied. You can figure this out by taking off all your gear and any horse you may be riding on, and attempting to walk to another place.  This will give you the timer after the speed level timer reduction has been applied.

While on Foot:

Initial Timer: 300

-27 Travel Time From Enchants
Eagle Boots (30%), Ivory Staff (7%), and Lion Vest (5%)

When applying the timer reductions for walking, you reduce the timer by the enchant first, then by the gear.

For enchants, simply subtract the enchant timer from the initial timer: 300-27 = 273

To see how a piece of gear affects the speed timer, multiply the speed timer by (100 - (speed gear reduction %))/100.  Repeat this for however much gear you have:

Now that we applied the enchant timer, we apply the reduction from the gear:
273 * ((100-(30))/100) * ((100-(7))/100) * ((100-(5))/100) = 273 * .7 *.93 *.95 = 168.83685 = 169

Note that the end result gets rounded up if it ends in a decimal.

169 Seconds is the final time with this setup.

While on Horseback:

Initial Timer: 300

-27 Travel Time From Enchants
White Horse (81% Timer Reduction)
Speed gear reduction is ignored while riding on horseback

When applying the timer reductions for walking, you reduce the timer using the horse’s reduction first, then apply the enchants.

For the reduction from horseback, multiply the speed timer by (100 - (horse reduction %))/100.
300*((100-81)/100) = 57

Note that you round up the result if it ends in a decimal.

After the horse reduction, you apply the enchantment reduction to get your final timer on horseback: 57-27 = 30

30 Seconds is the final time for this setup.
